Iceland: New Fee for Cruise Passengers

Iceland has implemented a new infrastructure fee for cruise passengers, which is approximately 2,500 ISK (around £14) per day. This fee is intended to address competitive disadvantages faced by domestic tourism companies and to generate additional revenue for the government. The law, approved last year, has already led to a reported decline in cruise bookings at several ports, with some experiencing up to a 30% drop in visits. The Cruise Iceland association is advocating for amendments to the fee structure, arguing that it should only apply to future bookings rather than retroactively to trips already sold.
